Services for Children
Evaluation and therapy services for children include:
- Articulation and inteligibility issues
- Fluency (stuttering or cluttering)
- Alternative communication methods (pictures, symbols, and computer)
- Cognitive rehabilitation following chemotherapy, surgery, or head trauma
- Receptive and expressive language delay
- Specific language impairments (SLI)
- Social skills and perspective training
Treatment plans are designed based on evaluation results and diagnostic therapy results. Using evidence-based methods and parent input we create a plan that addresses your child's communication and academic needs at home and in school.
About Social Skills and Perspective Training
Depending on the social adeptness of the student, a recommendation for individual, group, or a combination of services will be made. We incorporate educational strategies, visual reminders, and social stories that address the groups immediate needs in school and at home. The recommended treatment program could be based on one or more of the following excellent programs:
- Social Thinking program developed by Michelle Garcia-Winner
- Theory of Mind programs
- Picture Exchange for Communication System (PECS)
Social Cognition--Invite a Friend Along Groups
Encourage carryover and generalization of social skills from clinic to school or other environments, such as soccer practice, by inviting a peer friend to attend your child's social group sessions. During the group sessions the friend will learn how to engage your child and be a better listener and friend. Your child will learn from the model that the friend provides and will learn how to engage with peers. Each lesson is personalized to the group's needs. Goal areas can be joint attention, body orientation, verbal reasoning, how to handle teasing, requesting, joining in a group game, empathizing with others, and making small talk.
Verbal and minimally verbal children are welcome to attend.
Your child can invite one friend (typical peer) to each group session. The session will be fun for all of the children (up to a total of 6) and parts of the session will be digitally recorded so that the group will be able to review their performances. The lesson plans will include fun activities and games that teach active listening techniques, whole body listening, learning strategies, and social expectations. Each session is 90 minutes long. $125 per session or $450 per month (4 sessions). A maximum of 3 children and 3 friends can attend a group. Cost of materials is covered for all children. Friends need to submit a permission slip signed by their parents and a digital recording waiver statement prior to attendance.
